Brad Purdie, Head Coach | Bantam Prep
After a 15 year playing career, including the IHL, ECHL and Europe, as well as representing Team Canada on three different occasions, Brad retired and joined the University of Manitoba Men’s Hockey coaching staff. Over the last four seasons with the U of M, Brad was responsible for overseeing the forwards and power play. Brad has a High Performance 1 coaching certificate and has worked with Hockey Manitoba and the Program of Excellence U16 on three separate occasions, most recently as the head coach of the 2015 team that took part 2015 Western Canada Bantam Challenge, capturing the silver medal. Brad was also a part of the coaching staff that won Bronze at the 2015 Canada Winter Games. He is extremely proud and excited to be associated with the RINK Hockey Academy to help further develop young hockey players.
Jeff Borse, Assistant Coach | Bantam Prep
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Jeff finished his playing career with the Winnipeg Blues before beginning his coaching career. Jeff first started coaching with his old high school team, the Oak Park Raiders, where he won his first championship as a coach. After 3 years with Oak Park he moved onto the Bantam 2 Winnipeg Monarchs, again winning City and Provincial championships and placing 4th in Westerns. Jeff then made the jump to Junior hockey with the Winnipeg Blues then the Charleswood Hawks. During his time coaching he pursued the skill development side of the game as well. Spending 5 plus years with Vigier Hockey and 3 years with Jets Hockey Development. Recently Jeff was accepted and is in training to become a Hockey Canada Certified Skills Coach. With his love for the game, strong belief in development and diverse hockey background, Jeff is beyond excited to join the Rink Hockey Academy and continue his development.
Sandy Henry, Head Coach | Elite 15
Born and raised in Alberta, Sandy had spent 4 years coaching the CFR Bison AAA midget team in the AMHL before moving to Winnipeg. He had been to the Alberta final the last 3 years of coaching out west and has one appearance at Telus Cup National Championship. He has been a WHL scout (Red Deer Rebels) for the last 5 years, a defense skills coach in Jr. A for last 6 years and spent 2 years as a player rep for a large sports management company. Both his sons played in the WHL, one is still playing pro, having lots of experience from the parent side as well. Sandy spent the last 10 years operating his own defense skills clinic in Alberta. He is extremely excited to be joining the RINK Hockey Academy staff.
Mitch Giguere, Assistant Coach | Elite 15
Born in Montreal, Quebec, Mitch is a hockey student and coach for more than 10 years. Mitch has his High Performance 2 from Hockey Canada and has an Advanced Coaching Diploma (NCCP4) from the Canadian Sports Institute. After playing Midget and Senior Hockey, Mitch started coaching in the Quebec AA system. After spending one year in AAA midget as an assistant coach, he started coaching Minor Midget for three seasons and captured three Bronze medals in consecutive years, and sent several players to Junior teams across Canada, and had players selected in the NHL Draft. Mitch has also been heavily involved with the Team Quebec Program of Excellence (U14-U15-U16) and had the chance to be an assistant coach in the QMJHL Combine. He was a scout for the Foreurs Val d'Or in the QMJHL for 3 years. Mitch and his family (three daughters and one son) have decided to move out west for a new challenge. Mitch started last season as an Assistant Coach with the Dauphin Kings in the MJHL before taking over as the Interim Head Coach and General Manager in November. He is extremely proud and excited to be surrounded by great hockey people and professionals. He is looking forward to learning, teaching and be being a part of the RINK Hockey Academy.
Rob Smith, Head Coach | Midget Prep
Born in Steinbach, Rob started his hockey career spending three years playing Major Junior Hockey for the Calgary Hitmen and Brampton Battalion. From there, Rob played four full seasons with the University of Manitoba Bisons. His final two years with the Bisons he was named Captain of the team. After his University career he played professional hockey in Germany and in North America. Shifting his focus from playing to coaching, Rob started coaching in the Winnipeg AAA system. After one year he joined the Steinbach Pistons of the MJHL as an Assistant Coach/Assistant GM. Rob has also been heavily involved with the U-16 Team Manitoba program. He also won a bronze medal at the 2015 Canada Games.
Ian Duval, Assistant Coach | Midget Prep
This Manitoba born and raised native comes from a deep hockey background, which includes 5 years in the WHL with NHL camp invites to Tampa Bay and Columbus. At 21 he committed to playing at the University of Manitoba with the Bisons for 5 seasons. Following his University career he played in the ECHL with the Wichita Thunder for one season where injuries cut his playing career short. This is when he transitioned into player development with our staff at The Rink Training Centre since 2016. For the inaugural year of our RHA program Ian had the opportunity to be an assistant coach with our Midget team. He is extremely excited to continue to build from last season and to provide experience and growth for our players as well as our program.
Maggie Litchfield-Medd, Head Coach | Female Midget
Maggie has an impressive playing and coaching career that she will bring along to RHA. She played five full seasons with the University of Manitoba Bisons women’s hockey team and served as team captain in her final year. In 2015, Maggie represented Canada at the FISU games in Granada, Spain, and helped her country earn a silver medal. After University, Maggie moved to Sweden to play for SDE Hockey in the Swedish Women’s Hockey League (SDHL). During that time, Maggie served as an assistant captain and led the team in points. When her playing days finished, Maggie stayed in Sweden to serve as the head coach for the SDE Hockey team she played for, and to be the Chief Director of SDE’s minor female skill development. Maggie served as the assistant coach for University of Manitoba Bisons women’s hockey team last season before accepting her role with RHA. She is currently in the process of attaining her HP1 coaching certificate and brings a wealth of knowledge and international experience to the RINK Hockey Academy.
Tess Dusik, Assistant Coach | Female Midget
Born in Oak Bluff, Manitoba, Tess began her hockey career at seven years old. Her minor hockey days were spent playing with the boys and later transitioned to play female hockey in grade ten where she played for Balmoral Hall’s Prep hockey program. From there Tess was a member of Team Manitoba and was invited to Team Canada’s U18 camps. After her high school career, Tess got recruited to play university hockey for Bemidji State University Beavers (NCAA DI). The WCHA Scholar-Athlete received a full-ride scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science. Upon graduation, Tess played overseas in Gothenburg, Sweden before returning home to enroll herself into further education for massage therapy. Tess will serve as the Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) for Testify Performance as well as the assistant coach for the Female Midget RHA program.
Jon Cara, RINK Player Development
Jon has an extensive playing resume, with 2 years in the WHL with Lethbridge and Saskatoon, plus years in Portage (MJHL) and Penticton (BCHL). Jon returned to Winnipeg to attend the University of Manitoba where he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Marketing and Human Resources, while playing 4 years for the Bisons. Jon has worked in the hockey industry for 12 years, with the Edge of Excellence and Okanagan Hockey School in Penticton, BC, and brings a wealth of experience in Power Skating and Skill Development. Jon is the current skating coach for the MJHL’s Steinbach Pistons.
Jarrett Oster, RINK Player Development | Bantam Prep Skills Coach
Jarrett played his junior hockey career for the Yorkton Terriers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey league (SJHL) from 1998–2001. In his rookie season, Jarrett was awarded Rookie of The Year honors with the club. Throughout his junior hockey career, Jarrett was lucky enough to play in many championships, including The Royal Bank Cup. In his final season, Jarrett was named the Captain of the Yorkton Terriers. It was an injury during his final season with the Terriers that ended Jarrett’s career and brought him back to Winnipeg. Jarrett has been part of The Rink Team for several years and has a wealth of coaching experience in Skill Development and Power Skating with players of all ages and capabilities. Prior to joining our Team, Jarrett has had experience coaching at the Edge of Excellence hockey school as well as other hockey camps.
Kayden Jarvis, RINK Player Development | Elite 15 Prep Skills Coach
Kayden brings a wealth of playing experience and knowledge to The Rink team. He played 3 years with the St. Paul’s Crusaders of the Winnipeg High School Hockey League (WHSHL) and in his final year was named team captain. After high school, Kayden joined the Winkler Flyers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) for 2 seasons and was named assistant captain in his final year. Kayden has won the city and provincial championship twice with St. Paul’s and was also named rookie of the year with the Winkler Flyers. Kayden currently attends the University of Manitoba as an Asper School of Business student where he is working to attain his Bachelor of Commerce. Kayden looks forward to passing on his knowledge and experience as a member of The Rink Team.
Andy Zulyniak, RINK Player Development | Midget Prep Skills Coach
Andy has an extensive playing resume including two years in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Prince Albert Raiders and Brandon Wheat Kings, as well as 3 years with the Vernon Vipers of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). Andy returned to Winnipeg after attending Lakehead University where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts while playing 4 seasons for the Thunderwolves. Andy also attended two American Hockey League (AHL) training camps with the Grand Rapids Griffins and Worcester Sharks, as well as played minor pro with the Missouri Mavericks and the Dayton Gems of the Central Hockey League (CHL). Andy has worked in the hockey industry for over 10 years instructing many different programs including Corbin Hockey School in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Andy brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to The Rink Team working with players of all ages and capabilities.
Addie Miles-Abbott, RINK Player Development | Female Midget Skills Coach
Addie has an impressive playing and coaching resume. At age 15, Addie moved away from home to attend an elite female hockey school in Warner, Alberta, and captured two provincial championships during that time. Addie was then scouted to attend the University of Manitoba Bisons where she played her entire five-year University Sport career. During her time as a Bison, Addie was named team MVP three consecutive years, won two Canada West Championships, and was named Female Athlete of the Year in 2012. Addie was also selected as a member of Team Canada in 2011 for the FISU games in Erzerum, Turkey and helped the team win a gold medal. Since graduating from University, Addie has been heavily involved in coaching in the female hockey community. She spent time coaching high school hockey and time as the Assistant Coach for the University of Manitoba Bisons.
Ryan Cyr, RINK Goalie Development
Ryan has worked with GDI for more than eleven years, studying under GDI founder and Columbus Blue Jackets goaltending consultant Ian Clark. Ryan is the current goaltending coach for the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs, and former goaltending coach for the Regina Pats. From a playing perspective, Ryan played 6 years of Junior hockey, spending time in both the BCHL and WHL. Ryan then went on to play professionally in the ECHL, UHL and AHL. Most recently, Ryan has begun working with Hockey Canada as a goaltender instructor with the U17 men's team.
Brett Martyniuk, RINK Goalie Development | Bantam Prep Goalie Coach
Brett is a former WHL goaltender with the Tri-City Americans and Regina Pats. His past playing experience also includes playing in the MJHL for the Winnipeg Blues. Brett has also competed for a National Midget AAA Championship as a finalist with the Winnipeg Thrashers. He helped lead the team to a 58-2 record. Brett is the Development Coordinator at RINK Goalie Development and is the current Goaltending Coach of the Bantam Prep RHA Nationals. Brett also provides 1v1 instruction at RINK Goalie Development, along with being apart of RINK Goalie Development Regional Development Camps and Clinics throughout the season.
Spencer Tremblay, RINK Goalie Development | Elite 15 Goalie Coach
Spencer has been a RINK Goalie Development staff member for over five years. As a Minor Hockey goaltender he played for the Winnipeg Wild where he went on to win the goaltender of the year award in the MBAAA Midget League. He started his junior career with The Moose Jaw Warriors and later went on to play for the Red Deer Rebels. After his time in the WHL he went on to the BCHL and SJHL to finish his Junior career.
Tyler Oswald, RINK Goalie Development | Midget Prep Goalie Coach
Tyler has been with us since 2014 working with goalies in Summer Camps and 1v1 Sessions. He took a move to Calgary to pursue a degree in Sports and Recreation Management at Mount Royal University. While in Calgary he spent 3 years as a Goalie Coach for the Midget AAA Calgary Northstars. In addition to this role he was also a Goalie Consultant for the entire Calgary NorthStars Hockey Association. Tyler is also a regional scout with the WHL Swift Current Broncos. From a playing perspective he has playing experience in the WHL, with the Saskatoon Blades and Red Deer Rebels. He played most of his junior hockey in the MJHL with the Winkler Flyers.
Amanda Schubert, RINK Goalie Development | Female Midget Goalie Coach
Amanda leads our Female Goaltender Development programs and is the Goalie Coach for our RHA Female Varsity team. She started with RINK Goalie Development in 2013 as a Group Leader in RINK Goalie Development Summer Camps. She has a strong belief instilling a strong work ethic and compete level within each goaltender that she works with. Amanda was a member of the 2011 year U18 Team Manitoba where she helped capture a bronze medal for the province. She also graduated from the University of Manitoba Bisons. She helped the Bisons to two Canwest silver medals and was awarded the team MVP for the 2015-2016 season all while following up her education with a degree in social work. Most recently she completed her first proessional season overseas in Finland.
